Elvish Yadav, a well-known YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner, was arrested by the Noida Police on Sunday in connection with a case related to the use of snake venom as a recreational substance at a party held last year. He was subsequently remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the local court. The arrest came following an FIR filed on November 3, where Yadav was among six individuals named, at Sector 49 police station.
Noida’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Vidya Sagar Mishra, stated that Elvish Yadav was summoned for questioning on Sunday afternoon, but he allegedly withheld crucial information and did not cooperate with the authorities. Mishra claimed that Elvish Yadav, a resident of Gurugram, had been evasive during the interrogation, prompting his arrest.
According to Vidya Mishra, Elvish Yadav was initially questioned regarding the Wildlife Protection Act, under which the case was filed. However, it was discovered that he was concealing crucial information during the interrogation. Consequently, the sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were added to the charges against him. Mishra clarified that while the case was initially registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, it was expanded with additional sections of the NDPS Act before Elvish Yadav was produced in court.
Yadav’s arrest comes after he was named in the FIR along with five others on November 3. All other accused, except Yadav, had been previously arrested and subsequently released on bail. The case was registered under provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, as well as for criminal conspiracy under section 120B of the Indian Penal Code. Subsequently, the investigation into the snake venom case was transferred from Sector 49 to Sector 20 police station.
Events Leading to Elvish Yadav’s Arrest:
The complaint in the case was initially lodged by People For Animals (PFA). On November 3, five individuals were apprehended at a banquet hall in Sector 51, where nine snakes, including five cobras, were rescued from their possession. Vials containing snake venom were also seized during the operation. While Elvish Yadav claimed he was not present at the party, PFA chairperson and BJP leader Maneka Gandhi accused him of involvement in the illegal sale of snake venom.
