Russian President Putin is going to visit North Korea soon, according to North Korean state media.
This shows their growing cooperation as tension rises in Ukraine and East Asia. Putin thanked Kim for inviting him to Pyongyang and promised to go there “soon,” as per the Korean Central News Agency. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov mentioned that the specific dates for Putin’s visit are still being worked out through diplomatic channels and will be announced later, according to the Russian news agency TASS. This visit highlights the strengthening ties between the two leaders amid global concerns.
He said yes during a meeting with North Korea’s foreign minister in Russia last week. Putin thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for inviting him. If it happens, it will be Putin’s first visit to North Korea in over 20 years.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed Russia’s hope for President Putin’s visit to North Korea in the near future, following an invitation from Kim Jong-un. However, no specific date has been confirmed yet. KCNA’s initial Korean report hinted at Putin planning a soon visit, but the later English version mentioned his willingness for an early date. Amidst this, Russia acknowledged North Korea’s support in its Ukraine military operation during the visit of North Korean foreign minister Choe Son Hui. The situation remains fluid as diplomatic discussions continue between the two nations regarding the potential visit.
Kim and Putin becoming closer is making the US and its allies concerned. They criticized the arms trade between North Korea and Russia, saying it breaks several UN resolutions. This situation is causing tension and raising international worries about their alliance.
