Manoj Bajpayee, renowned for his versatile roles in Indian cinema, recently shared insights into his nearly 18-year-long marriage to former actor Shabana Raza, shedding light on their inter-faith union that didn’t encounter opposition from either of their families.
Speaking candidly about potential societal pressures during their union, Manoj emphasized the open-mindedness of both families that facilitated their seamless journey. “There were no problems, because my parents were broad-minded, and her parents were broad-minded too. That’s why we did not face any problems. Secondly, two people have to spend their life together. People who are wise, they never get in their way. People who are not wise, even God can’t help them,” he shared in an interview with Jist.
Shabana, known for her roles in ’90s films such as “Kareeb,” “Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet,” and “Fiza,” was then recognized by her screen name Neha. Their paths crossed in the 1990s, culminating in their union in 2006.
In a previous conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Manoj highlighted that their marriage was anchored more in shared values than religious differences. “I come from a Brahmin family, a feudal family. Her family had a lot of reputation and prestige to their name. But surprisingly, none of my family members ever objected to it. Never, till now,” he remarked. The acclaimed actor further emphasized their faiths, saying, “She’s a proud Muslim, and I’m a proud Hindu, but it doesn’t clash with each other.”
Manoj Bajpayee, a fixture in Indian cinema, graced the silver screen in 2023 with notable roles in films like “Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai,” “Gulmohar,” and “Joram.” Now, eagerly anticipating the release of “Killer Soup,” he continues to captivate audiences with his diverse performances.
