An Indian student hailing from Hyderabad, currently pursuing higher studies in the United States, has reportedly fallen victim to a violent attack and robbery in Chicago. Syed Mazahir Ali, a resident of Hashimnagar, Langar Houz, Mehdipatnam, is pursuing his Masters in Information Technology at Indiana Wesleyan University.
The distressing incident came to light when Ali’s wife, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi, received a harrowing call around 6 pm on February 4th from a friend of her husband. The caller informed her that Mazahair Ali had been attacked and robbed near his apartment on Campbell Avenue in Chicago, following which he was admitted to a local hospital.
In her appeal to Union External Affairs Minister Subramanian Jaishankar, Fatima Razvi recounted the traumatic experience of hearing about her husband’s plight. She described how Ali was bleeding profusely and unable to communicate due to the shock of the assault. Urging the minister to ensure her husband receives the necessary medical attention, she also expressed her deep concern for his safety and requested assistance to travel to the US along with their three minor children to be by his side.
In response to the distressing situation, the Indian Consulate in Chicago swiftly intervened, assuring both Ali and his wife in India of all possible assistance. The Consulate affirmed its commitment to liaising with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.
