In a recent statement, the External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India reiterated the country’s commitment to defence and trade collaboration with Russia, highlighting a significant shift in arms procurement trends over the past decade. Addressing concerns over the historical preference for supplying arms to Pakistan over India, the EAM emphasized the evolving landscape of defence acquisitions, with the United States, Russia, France, and Israel emerging as key suppliers to India.
During an interview with Handelsblatt, a leading German economic daily, at the Munich Security Conference, the EAM underscored the global economic imbalances and inequities exacerbated by the prevailing model of globalization. He emphasized the vulnerability of supply chains and economic dependencies exposed by disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate crises, and geopolitical tensions.
Highlighting the need for a more stable and equitable international economic order, the EAM stressed the imperative for reforming existing structures and redistributing economic power. He identified various stress factors challenging the global order, including geopolitical conflicts, climate change, and humanitarian crises, underscoring the urgency for comprehensive reforms to shape a more resilient and inclusive international system.
