In a shocking and tragic incident unfolding in Karnataka’s Hunsur taluk, a 21-year-old mason, Nithish, allegedly killed his teenage sister, Dhanushree, and their mother, Anitha, over an interfaith love affair. The heart-wrenching episode occurred late Tuesday night in the village pond near their native Hirikyathanahalli.
Dhanushree, a 19-year-old BCom student, had fallen in love with a youth from another faith in Hanagodu. Trouble began when her brother, Nithish, learned about the relationship and issued threats to the young man. Despite the warnings, Dhanushree continued communication with her love interest.
The tragic turn of events unfolded when Nithish, seemingly unable to cope with his sister’s choices, devised a plan to end her life. Under the pretense of taking her to a relative’s house, he led Dhanushree and their unsuspecting mother to Marooru village. At 10.30 pm, he brutally attacked and pushed Dhanushree into the water, intending to end her life.
In a devastating twist, their mother, Anitha, rushed to rescue her drowning daughter. As Dhanushree clung to her mother’s sari, both women tragically drowned in the pond. Nithish heartlessly returned home and confessed to his father, Sathish, about the horrifying act.
According to the father, the brother and sister had not spoken to each other for seven months prior to this gruesome incident. Superintendent of Police Seema Latkar confirmed Nithish’s arrest by Hunsur Rural police.
The bodies of Anitha and Dhanushree were recovered by fire and emergency personnel early Wednesday morning. This heart-wrenching tragedy highlights the extreme consequences of familial discord over personal choices, shedding light on the need for empathy and understanding in society.
