In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets valued at over ₹50 crore belonging to Rohit Pawar, the grandnephew of veteran politician Sharad Pawar. Rohit Pawar, a 38-year-old Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Karjat-Jamkhed, has emerged as a prominent figure within Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) following Ajit Pawar’s departure.
The attached assets primarily include a sugar mill owned by Rohit Pawar, known as Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited (Kannad SSK), situated in Kannad village of Aurangabad district. The seized properties encompass 161.30 acres of land, along with plant, machinery, and buildings associated with the sugar mill.
This action by the ED comes in the wake of Rohit Pawar’s summons by the agency in connection with a ration scam investigation. The attachment of assets under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) reflects the intensifying scrutiny on financial irregularities and alleged misconduct.
Rohit Pawar’s ascent within the NCP, coupled with his familial ties to Sharad Pawar, underscores the political significance of this development. The ED’s probe into Rohit Pawar’s financial affairs adds a layer of complexity to the political landscape, particularly as the NCP prepares for upcoming political challenges.
As the investigation unfolds, the implications of the ED’s actions against Rohit Pawar reverberate across Maharashtra’s political spectrum, potentially reshaping the dynamics within the state’s political arena.
