The Congress party has accused workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of tearing its posters, vandalizing vehicles, and disrupting the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra in Lakhimpur town, Assam. The party released a 54-second video purportedly showing individuals shouting “Jai Shri Ram” while tearing Congress posters and pulling down hoardings featuring Rahul Gandhi and other leaders.
The Assam unit of Congress took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction, stating, “Rahul Gandhi ji’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra drawing thousands of cheering people in Assam has made the Himanta Biswa Sarma regime restless. While CM is trying to derail the yatra by even threatening arrests, his followers are tearing off posters and banners of the yatra.”
Additionally, another video shared by Assam Congress revealed damage to vehicles, including a mini-truck carrying Congress flags and a car with damaged windshields. Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saika informed that the vehicles were damaged by miscreants while Assam Youth Congress workers were putting up posters and engaging in publicity activities in Lakhimpur.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the alleged attacks by BJP supporters, stating on Twitter, “We strongly condemn the shameful attack on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra vehicles and tearing of Congress party’s banners and posters by the BJP goons in Lakhimpur, Assam.”
Kharge accused the BJP of attempting to trample on the rights and justice guaranteed by the Constitution, vowing that the Congress party will not be intimidated by such tactics and will take appropriate legal action against those responsible.
As of the report filing, there is no information on whether the Congress plans to file a police complaint regarding the alleged vandalism and attacks during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The yatra has entered its third day, passing through Assam on its way to Arunachal Pradesh.
