Popular Tamil actor Vijay, fondly known as “Thalapathy,” has officially entered politics by launching his own party, the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, translating to “Victorious Tamil Association.” The 49-year-old actor clarified that the party won’t participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections but plans to make its electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
Vijay, who has been involved in public welfare projects through his fan club-turned-non-government organization, emphasized the need for political power to bring about widespread social and economic reforms. The party’s registration process has begun, with its leader, functionaries, and internal rules approved at a meeting in Chennai on January 25.
I am aiming at a corruption-free, progressive and secular government considering the current political climate that divides people on the basis of religion and caste,” his statement read.
