Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, alleging its use of agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to destabilize opposition governments. Kejriwal denounced what he termed as the BJP’s “Vinash Ka Model” (Model of Destruction), contrasting it with his government’s “vikas” (development) model.
Addressing the Delhi assembly during discussions on the 2024-25 Delhi budget, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal expressed confidence in the AAP-Congress alliance’s prospects, predicting victory in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi during the upcoming general elections.
In a sharp rebuke directed at the BJP, Arvind Kejriwal referenced his own encounters with the ED, likening them to a hypothetical scenario involving Lord Ram. He quipped, “If Lord Ram existed in this era, they (BJP) would send the ED and the CBI to his home too and ask him at gunpoint whether he wanted to go to the BJP or jail.”
Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks come in the wake of his summons by the Enforcement Directorate on eight occasions regarding the Delhi liquor policy case. He alleged that the BJP orchestrated a plan to arrest him and destabilize his government, intending to incarcerate him.
The accusation of political vendetta through the misuse of investigative agencies is not new in Indian politics. Opposition leaders frequently allege selective targeting by central agencies to undermine their political credibility and weaken their hold on power.
The escalating tensions between the ruling AAP government in Delhi and the BJP-led central government underscore the deep-rooted political divisions prevalent in the country’s capital. As the political landscape intensifies in the run-up to the general elections, allegations of coercion and misuse of power continue to dominate the discourse, highlighting the complex dynamics shaping Indian democracy.
