Actor Vishal Aditya Singh has taken a bold stand against the stagnant narratives of Indian television, particularly the overused ‘saas-bahu’ dramas that dominate the screens. Known for his roles in popular shows like Chand Jalne Laga, Vishal minced no words in expressing his disappointment with the industry’s lack of evolution in storytelling.

In a candid interview with Dramas and Dreams TV, Vishal criticized the repetitive and regressive portrayal of women in television shows. He lamented the dearth of meaningful content and called out writers for their inability to adapt to changing times. “They show anything. Why not portray a government job? They depict someone as an IPS officer in the name of government jobs, and after one episode, she’s back to making tea and snacks. Are they crazy?” Vishal exclaimed, reflecting on the absurdity of the narratives.

The actor emphasized the need for a shift in focus towards more relevant and relatable storylines that resonate with modern audiences. “There are a lot of things, I mean, you name it. We have to change it for the audience,” he asserted passionately.

Highlighting another glaring flaw in television plots, Vishal recounted instances where characters are portrayed as aspiring musicians or singers but are relegated to household chores in subsequent episodes. “Some will say ‘I am born to play music and I’ll make my family proud, but when she doesn’t recite hymns at home in the morning, there will be chaos. Her job was to become the voice of India, she was going to become a singing sensation. It is disappointing,” he expressed, shedding light on the incongruity of such narratives.

Vishal’s critique extends beyond mere dissatisfaction with the content; it stems from a desire to see the television industry evolve and produce content that reflects the realities of contemporary society. His remarks underscore the disconnect between traditional storytelling tropes and the changing expectations of the audience.

Chand Jalne Laga, the show in which Vishal gained prominence, also featured a talented ensemble cast including Gurpreet Singh, Nasirr Khan, Sorab Bedi, Trishna Mukherjee, Shefali Mahida, and Krishna Gokani. However, Vishal’s candid commentary serves as a wake-up call for the industry, urging creators to break free from the shackles of outdated narratives and embrace storytelling that resonates with the viewers of today. As Vishal advocates for change, his words echo the sentiments of many who yearn for a fresh approach to television entertainment.
