The Delhi Traffic Police have issued two traffic advisories for separate significant events scheduled in the national capital on Sunday and Monday, informing the public about diversions and restrictions that will be implemented in several parts of south, central, and north Delhi areas.
The first event, commencing around 4 am on Sunday, is the 43rd national championship marathon, the 9th edition of the New Delhi marathon, and the Paris Olympics 2024 qualifier series. Organized by the Delhi Athletics Association (DAA) with the support of NEB Sports and the approval of the Athletics Federation of India, the marathon will kick off from Gate No-1 of Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium at 4.15 am. The marathon will feature separate routes for the national full and half marathons, 10 km run, and 5 km run, with participants traversing through central Delhi areas.
Traffic advisories indicate that vehicular movement will be regulated on the marathon routes from 4 am to 10 am on Sunday, with provisions made for emergency vehicle access. Several traffic diversions and restrictions will be enforced at key junctions and intersections to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the marathon.
The second event is the annual Ijtema at Shahi Idgah in north Delhi, scheduled to commence on Sunday night and conclude around 11 am on Monday. With an estimated attendance of nearly 150,000 devotees, traffic diversions will be in effect from 9 pm on Sunday until 11 am on Monday at various points surrounding Shahi Idgah.
Traffic restrictions will be imposed on several major roads and intersections to facilitate the movement of devotees and ensure public safety during the religious gathering. The Delhi Traffic Police have urged the public to utilize public transportation and refrain from roadside parking to alleviate congestion on the roads.
As the national capital gears up to host these significant events, the Delhi Traffic Police are working diligently to implement necessary traffic management measures and ensure minimal disruptions to daily commuting routes. The advisories aim to inform residents and commuters about the anticipated traffic changes and encourage cooperation in facilitating the smooth conduct of the events.
