Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has taken steps to strategize government formation in the Centre, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces following the recent elections marred by allegations of rigging.

During a core committee meeting, participants agreed to expedite the nomination process for key government and parliamentary positions based on recommendations from specialized committees, as reported by Dawn News on Monday.

The PTI-backed candidates, running as independents due to the party losing its election symbol of the ‘bat,’ secured 101 of the 266 National Assembly seats. The party aims to form governments in crucial regions despite controversies surrounding its intra-party elections.

Specialized committees have been formed to devise strategies for government formation, focusing on accelerating the nomination process for pivotal roles, guided by proposed recommendations and strategies.

The PTI reiterated its commitment to preventing the country’s leadership from falling into the hands of individuals with criminal backgrounds, emphasizing the mandate given by the people to party chairman Imran Khan.

Additionally, PTI leaders met with President Dr. Arif Alvi to discuss alleged irregularities during the elections. They highlighted the significance of Form-45 in reflecting electoral outcomes and underscored PTI’s victory despite challenges, including alleged rigging.

The PTI claimed to have initially led with 170 National Assembly seats before alleged rigging favored the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.

With approximately 47 percent voter turnout, nearly 60 million voters participated in the elections, aiming to address Pakistan’s financial challenges and shape the country’s political landscape.
